I'd also try; Quick Access\My Settings\Configure Alerts\Unsubscribe\Save Changes, then exit, go back in Configure Alerts then do verification process once more.

It should work if you have ticked the below option OR you have clicked on alert me button on the question and the valid email address is configured. Please do check the spax box as well. Are you not getting any email alerts at all on any email address?
