SQL Azure Sync Tool bombs RRS feed

  • Question

  • U/g to SQL2K8E(R2) from SQL2K Std.  loaded db.  Created SQL Azure account.  Have not been able to move db into Azure.  Was looking for the easy button here.  Have tried 5 other freely available MS and non-MS tools.  I can connect without a problem.  Some of the tools even create the tables/views/procedures.  No rows.  This tool, Sync Frameworks, neither created the objects nor populated them.  Thoughts?  Someone has had to have done this already.

  • Hi CFDev-CT,

In order to do this, you would have to use Microsoft Sync Framework Power Pack for SQL Azure

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=BCE4AD61-5B76-4101-8311-E928E7250B9A&displaylang=en

Install this on top of SQL Server 2008 or above.

Then, follow the walkthrough document which is also available in the page above.

    Hope this helps,

    Patrick

  • Already tried that. What version did you mean by "SQL Server 2008" or above? Does that include the Express version(s)? Sean

  • Hi,

I meant SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2. It does not include Express.

Can you describe the steps you have taken? I want to see if there is any missing steps.

The problem may have been I was trying to use Express.  The software req on the SQL Azure site wasn't specific enough for me and am currently u/g to SQL Server 2008 R2 Trial w/ all the features.  Will see shortly if that rectifies the problem.  Thanks.  The docs could have been more clear about this and saved me many days.

go to sqlazurelabs.com for 'Data sync' which is a web based gui tool developed on top of sync framework.
