enlarge screen picture

  my laptop is connected by hdmi cable to lcd tv. the picture coming from my laptop does not fill the tv screen ,there is a black border all around the picture. I am using windows 8.1. Does anyone know how to rectify this?

  My laptop picture did fill the screen at one time ,but I think some windows updates have messed it up.
