Move business units to new organization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi There,

We have single tenant running on CRM 4.0 Enterprise.  Due to business reasons we need to move about 50% of business units, about 25GB data, to a new organization.   Please advise the best approach to separate business units and data into different tenants.

Thanks very much for your help!

  • Hi John,

In the past we have done this using two methods:

    a.  Create a copy of the organization (whole db), move it, then delete the users and data that are not applicable.

    or

    b.  Create a new organization, import customizations, then use a data migration utility such as scribe to move just the data related to the business unit.

  • If the base organization name will be new you need to start a new organization.

  • Alex,

Thanks for your information.  Scribe is nice but it's a little costly.  Do you know if Data Migration Manager (DMM) is a good utility to separate data from existing tenant into two new organizations?

  • Curt,

We can keep the base organization name or to create a new one, but about half of the business units and user accounts will have to be removed, not only disabling them.  Since CRM doesn't allow deleting BUs and Users, we are thinking to split current organization into two new organizations to assure each business entity (organization) has clean setup.  Do you have good suggestions?

    Thanks,

    John
