Any penalties for sub-domains? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can anyone tell me if there are any penalties for using sub-domains when coming from the perspective of getting crawled?  To be more specific, I run a site that has multiple sub-domains, one per customer.   Each subdomain has the same pages, they just will be skinned differently to match the customer's main website.  In some situations the base content of the specific pages is the same across subdomains with the only differene being the skinning (layout).  Do I get penalized by the search engines for having the same page being served under multiple sub-domains with different skinning?

    Thanks in advance.

  • The term 'duplicate content' says it all. It's not about the layout, but the actual content, i.e. body text, etc. Ideally all web pages should be 100% original, but since that's almost impossible we need to keep duplicate content to a minimum.
