Validation Service Unavailable? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Today I attempted to install Microsoft Virtual XP etc. on a Windows 7 Pro x64 MSDNAA install and was prompted to "validate" my copy of windows before downloading.  It prompted me to download the 'WindowsActivationUpdate', which when ran gives the error 'update installation failed. error information - 0x80072723D'.  I tried to reboot disable virus scanner, firewall etc. and nothing helped.

I then went to 'http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/' and pressed validate windows and was greeted with the following message '

    Oops, there was a problem.

Windows running on your PC could not be validated at this time. This may have happened because you either attempted to validate Windows running on your PC at a time that the validation service was not available, or your PC was unable to connect to the validation service. Please try validation again later.'

Can anybody else confirm there is currently an issue with the validation service? I have not received any notifications that my key is invalid, and the diagnostic report does not report any issues, nor the system scan.

    Best Regards

  • Hi Darkinc,

ok, I heard back from my Devs and here is what they told me:

0x8004fc13 =  Failed to communicate with the AVS (Activation and Validation Server).  Recommended solution would be asking customer to check the network configurations such as proxy/firewall..etc.

There was no reported issue with the AVS Server, at the time you posted this thread, nor are there issues presently reported. (Note: if there was any problem, we would know because the forum volumes would be way higher then the 5-7 threads we normally get on a Sunday and Monday).

    Thank you

  • It is up and running for me. However if it still is not working for you try again later, if you are experiencing any other connection problems with any other servers you may need to reset your router/modem.

Also, problems loading pages can sometimes occur when your browser cache is full, select tools, internet options, browsing history, you can select what to clear and what not to with the settings button.

Type disk cleanup in the start menu, run the disk cleanup application. And then try again.

  • I have tried the above mentioned things, on another note, I hardly ever use IE, so the cache etc. should not be full, just as well IE cache etc. should not account for the program error I am getting to.

I have also plugged my laptop directly into the modem and receive the same error messages on that.

I really do not want to reinstall just to be able to download and install virtual xp.  Any other solutions?

Start a no cost tech support incident at the above link, the only thing I see wrong with your report is the HrOnline error. Those are usually cause by an activation exploit, however your key appears valid from cursory observation. If you can think of any possible exploits remove them and try validating again, if not start the tech support process at the link provided.

  • I had to install from a flash drive, since the original ISO wouldn't work, but all the files in the flash drive came straight from the ISO which came from Microsoft.

I do not have any activation exploits installed or anything of the sorts.

  • Unfortunatly, the information I have does not describe the meaning for error 0x8004FC13 but it does not, to my knowledge, indicate an Activation Hack.

I will contact my Devs and see if they can tell me the meaning of this error and I will get back to you.

    Thank you,

  • try and goto C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
