Help! Cannot attach open files RRS feed

  • I have recently begun having this problem on one laptop...I have to think that it's some setting that was changed during an update or something, but it's not on any of my other machines.

    When trying to attach a document to an email or other submission (Outlook, Gmail, or any other app that allows attachments), if the document is still open, I get this:

    "[document name]

    This file is in use.

    Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program."

    If I close the file, I can attach it, but that's not the way it is supposed to work. This happens whether I am in Outlook, Gmail, Blackboard, or any application that allows attachments to uploads. It happens when these apps are open in any browser (I have tried Firefox, Chrome and Explorer). It only happens on this laptop, though...all my others work as they should. 

    Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I really don't want to spend 500 dollars for Windows Tech support to tell me what's screwed up with their software.
