Strange mouse behaviour RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I'm a newbie here and not very techy, but I think I have a rogue script hanging around in my computer. Certainly my nouse keeps behaving oddly. The cursor will suddenly seem to have a mind of its own and start shooting up the page. Text will suddenly select itself. If I have multi-tabs open, it will 'grab' one of the tabs and try to move it along. It feels  like it's dragging or got a mind of its own. Anyway, someone mentioned that there may be another script running that needs to be got rid of , and I wondered if anyone here could recommend a good way to do this?

    Many thanks for listening!

  • Hi,

Without question you are definitely not asking your question in the right place. This is a forum for administrative scripting (WSH, VBScript, JScript, PowerShell) on the Windows platform.

You need to clean your mouse and take your computer to a local vendor to make sure it's not infected with malware.

  • I usually find that a good exterminator can help.  Sometimes we give tranquilizers to neurotic mice.

I had a  brand new disk drive that was returned from a customer in Puerto RIco.  We found it had a ginko sleeping on the disk.  Caused a lot of disk errors.  We removed the varmint and the disk started working.

Check you mouse for varmints frequently.  If you live in a dusty and dry place then you shol,.d use an optical mouse as there are no little compartments for varmints and dust balls to climb into.

On the more serious side - what Bill and I are indicatiiong is that this is most often casued by a dirty or damaged mouse.  A broken wire can cause this.  In wireless mice it can be interfernece or a bad battery.

All of this has nothing to do with scripting.  Take the offending mouse to your nearest mouse vendor and have him test it.  Buy a new one if needed.  Post back in the harddware support forum for the vendor of your PC hardware.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Thanks guys, I'm sorry for posting in the wrong place, but as you have given proposed solutions, just to let you know that I had already done everything you're recommended and it made no difference. The  mouse was tested at my local computer shop and found to be varmint-free! So the fault is on my computer. I've used Panda anti-virus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, TDSS Killer, and even PC Speed Up which managed to detect more than 500 things that are slowing down my computer, but not that one! I've also defraged my disc. So I'm running out of options now.

I know the answer is to take it to the computer shop, but those guys will just run a piece of software to cleanse it, and I'd just like to know what the piece of software is, so I can do it myself.

Anyway, thanks for listening and trying to help!
