The installed copy of Office 2007 Professional Plus is a nongenuine installation because the Volume Licensing Key (VLK) has been blocked.  Keys are blocked by Microsoft for many reasons, such as the key has been  lost, stolen, compromised, or the Volume Licensing Agreement has expired.  Also, if Microsoft notices a pattern of misuse, ie, many more installations of the key than covered by the Agreement, Microsoft may also block further use of the key.

If your use of Office 2007 Professional Plus is associated with a larger business, school or governmental entity, please contact the IT department for more information.

If your use of Office 2007 Professional Plus is associated with small business use and you do not have a current Volume Licensing Agreement, or if you purchased this software from a store, a vendor, an online software seller, or an online auction, or downloaded it online thinking it was an individual copy of Office 2007 Professional, you may have inadvertently purchased counterfeit software and/or materials.  Please gather your materials, visit www.howtotell.com, and compare your materials to the examples posted there.  If it turns out that you have counterfeit materials, please follow the steps at that site to submit a piracy report.  You may also want to visit the seller to demand the Genuine Microsoft software you paid for.

Please view the Office Genuine Offer FAQ http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC to see if you qualify for discounted or complimentary replacement of your counterfeit Office.

  • I may add to this that this problem arose when I uninstalled Office Live Services, since I installed it for free to test, some months ago.

  • This started with me after the latest update to check that the s/w is genuine.

If I make IE my default browser then it always shows office as genuine.
If I make my firefox the default browser then it tells me it is not genuine. This is despite loading the addin and allowing it full access.

Another ploy to oust the opposition?

  • Hello eddy999,

Based on the fact that all of your installed Microsoft software (Vista, Office, Project, and Visio) are some flavor or other of Volume Licensed software, your best course of action is to check in with your organization's tech support people if you are encountering problems with some of the above displaying nongenuine messages.

  • Hi Dan,

The only problem I have is with Office. All others don't exhibit any genuine 'errors'. MS Office was not a volume license, this was purchased personally by me. Could there be some incompatability between a volume license OS, and a non-vl version of Office?

    Thanks

  • Hello eddy999,

After seeing your reply I took a second and then third look at your mgadiag report and I see that the Pid type for your installation of Office Enterprise 2007 (normally a Volume Licensing product) has a value of 1, which normally means a retail license.

Now that's a bit confusing, unless your installed Office is part of the "Home Use Program."  Can you confirm that you purchased Office Enterprise as part of the Home Use Program?

  • Hi Dan,

    Thankyou for your feeback.

I purchased Office Enterprise 2007 through one of the student schemes (part of a UK student deal with Microsoft). It is allowed to be installed on 2 machines. So far we have it on 1 machine only, but that will change if we can sort out this issue (the other machine is Vista Home). If this constitutes a 'Home use Program' I don't know. I would say that since i first replied on this thread (and thus generated the report), I have not had another 'geniune' notification on any of the Office programs - perhaps this is an intermittent issue.

    Thanks

You can visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  That also functions to "clear the cache" for the Office Genuine Advantage Notifications Utility.

If that does not correct the problem, then my original advice still stands:  since all of your programs and your Windows are all Volume Licensing installations, your first stop for support would be the tech support people in your organization.

  • Hi Dan,

That link reports that the validation was successful. I'll consider this issue 'fixed'. If I have any other warnings i'll report back.

    Thanks for your help.
