to change domain name for a existing user to another in crm 4.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We want to migrate users from domain A to domain B. the migration will occur individually for every user at once. we want to update user from domain A to domain B such that he retains personal views and all the data.

Now AD is going to migrate and that means the users will migrate from old domain to new domain. How can we migrate the users in the CRM from being in the old domain to new domain??

    Its very urgent.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

You are able to change the login name of a user in the GUI which should mean that it is a supported way of doing this.

  • Hello Rickard,

I tried doing that but no luck. I am getting this error "You are attempting to create a user with a domain logon that does not exist. Select another domain logon and try again."

Both the Domain fall under different Forest but they share two way trust between them. i really dont know what is the issue.

    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

    Thanks

  • One way to do it is to setup a new CRM Server & SQL Server in your new domain

Then backup the CRM organisation database on your current SQL server and restore it on your new SQL Server

Then on your new CRM server, use the deployment manager and add in the existing database. While doing that there is an option to re-map the CRM accounts to the new AD logons.

  • I think this has something to do with it: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh699704.aspx

"The accounts that are used to run the Microsoft Dynamics CRM services must be in the same domain as the computer that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011."
