replacing system drive (HDD with OS on it) RRS feed

    hey folks, did some reading on how im basically wasting a 1TB HDD that my OS resides on. i was told that if any share data is saved on that hdd and it fails ill be screwed.

    i would like to utilize a smaller hdd for the OS and use the 1TB elsewhere. how would i perform this? can i just put another HDD in that slot and run recovery disc?

     

    this is on my acer ah340 homer server.

    You're not wasting the drive. Windows Home Server will store files on it if it needs to, and if you have duplication turned on for all your shares, you won't lose anything is any single disk (even your system disk) fails. If you don't have duplication turned on for some or all shares, you're already accepting the possibility that a disk will fail and you'll lose the contents of those shares, so there's no increased risk from that.
