Activation doesn't remove OGA notifications RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using Win XP Home and have just updated Office 2007 from a non-genuine to a genuine Enterprise edition (through my employer).

I first installed the genuine version of Office over the top of the old one to no avail. Uninstalled Office completely (or so I thought), and reinstalled off the supplied DVD. The products activate without issue, but the annoying OGA notice remains.

I've removed the OPA11 and 12 dat files and re-activated as per http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/903275/en-us, but with no change in the result.
The online W/OGA diagnostic tool claims that everything is ok.

Here's the output from the Genuine Advantage Diagnostic tool (found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926333/en-us):

  • Hello Steve,

Thank you for contacting the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forum. There may be a potential some Office 2003 remnants may have been left behind after you attempted the uninstallation process.  I would like to provide some available options we have for assisting customers to address issues they are currently experiencing.

The following article will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT OFFICE 2007) on your computer. Then reinstall Microsoft Office using the genuine Office installation media  and product key. See below:

KB290301 – Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

The following link provides information for the Windows Product Key Update Tool instructions.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PkuInstructions.aspx?displayLang=enUtility

If you are still having issues, download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

     http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

We can take a look at your diagnostic report and try to offer you some suggestions which may or may not resolve your issue.

    Thank you,

    Stephen

  • For what it's worth, both Windows and Office report as valid from this page: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ValidateNow.aspx?displaylang=en

I have the holographic-printed DVDs and product key stickers for both.

  • Thanks for your prompt response.

    • I've run the Windows clean-up utility and found no older versions of Office.
    • I tried to run the Windows Product Key Update but was told that the key I have on my COA already matches the key for this copy of Windows.
    • I've completely reinstalled Office 2007 from the DVD (I wasn't asked to authenticate this time round).
    • Both Windows and Office validate fine, but the OGA notifications remain.
    • Here's the output from the MGA Diagnostic Tool, as requested:

  • Thanks for your efforts Stephen, I appreciate that your job isn't easy - I'll try contacting someone as you suggest.

By way of feedback to Microsoft in general though - I've had nothing but problems since making the effort and paying for the legitimate software. The Genuine "Advantage" is a painful irony.
