Outlook client logging out unexpectedly

Question
-
Here's my environment:
- CRM 4.0 with AD and IFD
- Outlook client with offline
- IE8
- Rollup 2 (yes I know, will do 3 asap)
Here's the issue (intermittent and difficult to reproduce):
- I'm logged in from outside (using IFD and form auth) with the outlook client open (in "online" state) and a window of two of IE pointing to the IFD url, and mixing and matching (i.e. working on Outlook but also on the browser).
- All of a sudden, the little icon of the CRM Host process pops a notification: "you have successfully logged out of CRM". The CRM toolbar in outlook is grayed out, CRM functionality is gone and I cannot get it back unless I restart outlook. Also, if I click something on the IE window I get to the login page of the form auth for IFD.
This is terribly annoying, I wonder if:
a) anybody else has experienced something similar
b) anybody knows what's happening
c) there is a fix.

We had a similar issue, and we narrowed down when the sign out occured to when an editable lookup was searched. For instance, create a new account record, click in the primary contact field and type the first letters of a name and tab out of the field. CRM will then search contacts using that string. If more than one is found, and you click back on the field to view the, you are signed out of CRM.
For us, Rollup 3 fixed the issue.- Marked as answer by Alberto Gemin - Duplicate Profile Thursday, April 23, 2009 12:17 AM

Hi Alberto,
do you have the same experience with IE7? There is a current issue with IE8 and CRM for Outlook (may be related with your issue).

Richard, bang on. Exactly what you described. I entered one letter ('a') and it worked. I entered two letters ('ab') and it logged me out. Nice to know I have one more reason to install rollup 3.
