All Remote Systems Show Offline.

Question
-
Hey All,
I just upgraded to the newest 0.9.3425.5 version. All of my remote systems now show offline with a yellow ! point. My local system shows on-line with a yellow ! point. One of the "remote" systems is sitting right next to me. I can hop over there and I therefore KNOW that it is in fact on-line, the Internet is accessable and I am logged in to Live Mesh on that system. But it shows itself as on-line while the other system right next to it shows as offline. I have even loggined in to the Live Mesh Desktop and connected to them via Internet Explorer and I was able to view the remote desktops without a problem. I have logged off and on to Live Mesh. I have shutdown and restarted each system. All to no avail. Is anyone else having this problem since the upgrade? Oh, my one try remote system I don't have access to until Friday, October 31, when I return to my office system. But it is also showing offline with the yellow ! point.
I LOVE Live Mesh. It is a real life saver for me and my project work!! I know that it is still in beta and know one said it was going to be E-Z.Thursday, October 30, 2008 9:56 PM

Hi,
We have a possible fix in this thread. Those of you reporting devices showing up with a yellow "!" might want to give it a try. And please update here if it works for you (or, for that matter, if it does not).
SunfireDragon: Yes, you can send us logs in batches. You might want to put something in the Subject line to indicate this, e.g., "Logs: 1 of 3" or something like that. You could also open a bug through Connect (instructions are in an Announcement at the top of the forums) and attach the logs to the bug. Whichever is most convenient for you.
Thanks,

There was an explanation on the Live Mesh blog taht said they were cutting over to some new servers to allow for the beta to be massively scalable. So I suspect your other system (and all of my remote systems) are talking to the "wrong" server now, and you'll need to update those systems. I guess I'll find out tonight when I get home and find out whether I can see my machine at work after upgrading the two boxes at home.Thursday, October 30, 2008 10:50 PM

Hey There GuyWithDogs,
If that is the case, I guess I will just shutdown my Live Mesh connections and give it a day or two and see if I get moved over to the new up-scaled servers. Thanks.Thursday, October 30, 2008 10:56 PM -
I am having the same problem on one of my 5 devices. It is showing all other devices as "Offline", and is not updating the device list for new devices added to my mesh - and is giving 401 errors when trying to have the device sync to a new mesh folder.Friday, October 31, 2008 2:16 AM

Hi,
We're investigating the 401 error issue(s); there's another thread about that here. As for the devices appearing offline (or with the yellow '!'), even when they are clearly online - if that state persists, please go ahead and file a bug for us (just to be sure we catch it if it's a new issue).
Thanks for your patience. (Stanley, I feel like you've been waiting a long, long time for this update. I sure do hope that your experience with Live Mesh is improving!)

My devices that got updated were showing offline status for devices that were NOT yet updated. Once I updated, and rebooted, then I could see the status correctly. I had to reboot to get it to work properly.Friday, October 31, 2008 9:20 PM

All of my devices have been updated, and I have rebooted, signed in and out of Mesh, etc.
I'm going to try to remove the device from my mesh, uninstall & reinstall the Live Mesh client software and add the device back into my mesh. Hopefully this will clear the faulty state of this client. I'll post once I know if this works - unfortunately I cannot try it right now because the livemesh.com website is currently down.

Ben.
The 401 error issue and this "all devices appearing offline" issue may be related, because I also have both issues on one of my computers. In addition to all the devices appearing offline, if I add a mobile phone to the mesh it doesn't show up in the list of devices.Friday, October 31, 2008 11:38 PM -
Hey Ben,
Thanks for tracking this problem. I was in the office all day Friday (Running XP Pro w/SP3) and was able to connect to my home office system (which runs Vista Ultimate SP1) all day without a problem. Once I got home, all remote systems show off-line with the yellow "!" point on them. I cannot connect to the office system at all. My other home office system is Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. I believe that this is not a support platform so I only mention it in passing. I was able to connect to it remote via notifier from my XP Pro system on Friday also. It also show itself as on-line and all other systems as off-line. When I connect to Live Desktop with I.E. 7, it shows my Vista system as on-line and asks if I want to connect to it. I can connect to the Vista system even though it shows the Server system is off-line. I am soooo confused! :-) It's hard to keep it all straight sometimes! One final thing, I don't get the 401 error as was reported by GuyWithDogs. Go figure. On Friday from my XP Pro system in the office, I uploaded several large files into Mesh Folder and they DID synch with my Vista system. I was even able to login remote and email the files to some one as attachments. So I don't think the yellow ! is even accurate as well, that is, assuming the ! means the system is not synching.
As I have said before, I love Live Mesh! I think Microsoft is dead-on with this project. I love being a part of this but boy, oh boy! it does make life hard sometimes ;-(Sunday, November 2, 2008 4:56 AM -
I'm having this same issue, but for me my Home computer always appears offline, although I can remote to it from the Live Desktop. Trying to do so through the notifier doesn't work, due to it appearing offline. In addition, none of my files are synchronizing anymore, I just get the placeholder .wlx files. I do not know if these are related, but they both occurred at the same time after I updated and rebooted both machines with the latest version of Live Mesh (0.9.2424.5).
I tried to submit my logs, but gmail limits the size of the log files and even zipping them I would still have to send two batches. Is that acceptable?Monday, November 3, 2008 2:22 PM -
I'll add to the mix as well... as I have an interesting scenario. In the Mesh Notifier, it shows a device (my home computer, WinXP SP3) with the Yellow ! Triangle, and it says "Offline".... however, the Connect to Device link is active, and when I click on it, I can remote desktop to the computer just fine. A few seconds after remoting to it, the notifier here now says that it's online. Interesting indeed. btw, running WinXP SP2 here at the office.Monday, November 3, 2008 3:23 PM

Hey Ben,
I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know (and all the others following this thread) that I tried the proposed fix and it still does not work on my Vista Ultimate system. My office XP Pro system has no problems at all (well, at least at this time) and I can still access my Vista system remotely, even though it shows as being off-line even when I am remotely attached to it -- go figure!Sunday, November 9, 2008 3:21 AM -

I don't know why or how but all of my Live Mesh systems are running just fine now. It was fixed as mysteriously as it was broken. I never uninstalled/reinstalled anything or changed anything on my end. I don't know what you did but I am now a happy Mesh camper again. Let's just keep hoping that it stays this way. :-) Thanks!
Have things improved for anyone else who reported this same type of problem? Let us know.

Well, that worked out nicely, all of one day without a problem. This morning I started up my systems and guess what: All system on my Vista system show as off-line with nice little yellow !'s. Go figure. What's up with that? Oh, one more thing, last night I installed 8 new updates with the Vista Updater program. Now, things don't work again.Thursday, November 13, 2008 9:12 PM -

When I checked my home system remotely from work earlier today it looked like the "!"'s were gone and nothing was "offline" for me as well. So I thought it was fixed.
Now I wonder if it has really been fixed or not. Since your previous post about it being fixed was marked as the answer by Ben, I was hoping that that would be the end of it.Thursday, November 13, 2008 11:22 PM -

Hey Darren Utd,
I have removed the "answered" check mark from this threat since it only held for less than 24 hours. Maybe we will get lucky and it will "fix" itself again. :-(
