Windows Vista Build 6002 error: This copy of Windows is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello-

I originally posted my question in another thread, but was instructed to post it again in a new thread. Per instructions, I've also included a copy of my MGADiag report.

My computer started throwing this error about a week-and-a-half ago -- the first time in more than a year-and-a-half. Unfortunately, the numbers on my CoA have worn off. Also, the machine was purchased at Costco, but not in my state and not on my credit card. I'm on an HP Pavilion dv6-1053cl. Is there any way to verify my copy of Windows Vista via my computer's serial number? Please advise!

  • For some reason Windows is not seeing an SLP bios marker. Either something is interfering with it or it does not exist. If you have updated your bios it is possible that the version you updated to is missing the marker.

Your options are limited with the worn sticker, you could see if HP will send a replacement (very doubtfull), try a factory restore, flash the bios (risky, should be done by a technician, I never recommend a novice do this so proceed at your own risk).

-OR- try to determine why windows stopped seeing the marker and attempt to fix it. You can try a system restore to a point prior to the non-genuine status, but this will not help if the marker is missing from the bios.
