CCleaner (registry cleaner software) caused my computer to start saying my XP is genuine when it is. RRS feed

  • Question

  • This XP is genuine. Never seen this problem before. Ran CCleaner and now viole` I'm not genuine anymore. I went through the resolve issues check and everything checked out by Active X failed for some reason. I regsrv32 the files in the support bullentin, followed the steps to fix Active X settings in the security tab of Internet Options. Nothing works.

How do I fix this? I have to have a countdown each time I start my computer now and message saying I'm not valid when I am.

Validation was successful. Thank you for using genuine Windows.

Problem still exists. Funky little five spoke icon in my systray keeps telling me I may be a victim of counterfieting. I'm NOT! My computer runs perfect (and much faster after using CCcleaner).. except for this sudden unexpected problem. HELP MICROSOFT HELP!!!

  • Hey Seaside,

Right now I do not see a problem based on the diag results which you provided. ARe you receiving any error codes or messaging whatsoever that indicates otherwise?  Were you Genuine prior running this third party software? Please contact CCleaner and/or post on their forums (if they have one) and field this question.

  • Seaside,

Right now your Gateway computer is running a Volume License for XP Pro.  Are you in an environment where such a license is expected, such as in a medium or larger sized business, school/educational, or governmental setting?

Typically a Gateway computer being used by an individual or small business would have an OEM license for XP installed.

  • Hi,

The answer is yes. I am a network administrator. The problem is resolved. After I posted this and gone through all the steps listed here it occurred to me that maybe I should reboot.. lol. The reboot was all it took after following the instructions here. Thank you and I don't believe I will be using CCleaner in the future. Case closed.
