SCCM Distribution Points - physical location makes a difference?

  We have clients coast to coast. It would be ideal to have distribution points spread out around the country if clients knew what DP was closest to them. DPs do not function this way do they?
  
  And how do I post this in: Microsoft > Forums Home > Configuration Manager Setup/Deployment >
  
  I don't care for this "Choose a category" thing when I am already in the forum to where I want to post my questions...
