Connection or Here. Spread to thin. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been fallowing Live Mesh on Microsoft Connection. I just now found this today.

Do I have to double post? Post something there and here?

Why the duplication of efforts in two different places?

What gets more visibility by Microsoft this forum or Microsoft Connect?

Are these the only two official Microsoft forums on Live Mesh or are there more?

  • Connect is where to file official feedback. Bugs get reviewed and tracked internally there.
Here is the community site. We get to discuss Mesh with each other. The Mesh team is also a very active presence here.
From a beta testing perspective, if you encounter a bug, file it on Connect. If you are interested in having other testers validate your bug or having a dialog with fellow testers and members of the Mesh team, do drop in here now and again. :-)

  • I work on the forums platform team, and we're aware of this issue and are going to be working with the Connect team next year to integrate the product feedback experience across connect and forums overall.

  • Thanks for the heads up Andrew, that sounds cool.

y2k4life, like the other steve said, connect is where you should file the bug or suggestion. Usually, If I find something, I come here first and see if anybody is discussing it. If yes, I follow the thread and also look to see if there is feedback on connect. If it is not here in the forums, I check on connect to see if it is there anyway. If not, I post feedback, then come here and post a link so others can look for it and vote. This way we don't have multiple bugs on connect for the same thing, and if more people have the same issue, they know where to vote and Microsoft might make it a bigger issue as more of us validate it. ;-)

I can't say it better then that.  It's always said the squeeky wheel gets the grease, and if we see a number of votes & validations showing up on bugs, it definately catches our eye.  That's not to say the one time entered and looked at bug is ignored, but having the community help out and vote on bugs really helps us.  That definately includes suggestions as well!

  • Kensm,

What I can't understand about the bugs and suggestions is that I have now posted numerous of them ... only to seen them marked as "Fixed" and then "Closed" a day or so later ... all with absolutely NO feedback.  No comments.  No communications from the team.

At that point my bugs and feedback might be around ... but what does it mean to be marked as Closed?  Why no feedback/comments from the team, or the person who chose to close this out?

Right now, it seems there is no real conversation with Microsoft about my input ... I take the time to test, and make suggests ... and then I get the automated e-mail notification that someone marked it Fixed, then Closed ... blackhole.  :-(

Am I to understand that it really is just a one-way street?

Your completely thrilled, Mesh enthusiast ...

  • Hello Scott,

If you submitted suggestions, we are tracking them by creating a master list of all the suggestions made by our customers. Suggestion bugs are closed once recorded. I agree that we should have better messaging about what is happening to your bugs and suggestions. Scott, could you please email lmprev@microsoft.com and provide your Connect handle so I can personally review the bugs you submitted.

    Thank you,

  •   Hey Scott,

Really have to apologize there, you should and everyone for that matter that submits bugs or suggestions to us via any method, Connect, Forums, or even an e-mail should have some type of response at least letting you know we've got it and we're looking at it or processed it.

As Nadia said, we're taking every single suggestion and tracking it to a huge mega master list.  This isn't to say the suggestion with only 1 submission will get less visibility then the one with 1000, but trying to keep things sorted in a way that makes sense and is presentable to people a big list is about the best way to do it.

Again sorry for the confusion and the feeling that you got left in the cold there.  It's definately not the case.

  • Hi, Scott. This is really a long standing issue with filing bugs through Connect. Having been involved in Microsoft beta testing for a long time now and personally meeting several of the people who are responsible for reviewing the filed bugs, and either validating themselves or copying them to the internal system for escalation, tracking, and verification, I can tell you that the main reason you see the strange status in Connect is the fact that there is no easy link between Connect and the internal system. It is a whole lot of work for the beta teams to keep updating the "external" bug on Connect while it moves around internally. In my experience, you'll get an update when more information is requested. In many cases, the bug filed by you won't see any updates, however, be assured that the team has reviewed it and has either added the information to an existing internal bug or opened a new internal bug for tracking unless the external bug was poorly written, undocumented, or absolutely impossible to reproduce.
It is refreshing to see such great interaction with the Live Mesh team on this forum. It augments the bug reporting process very well. Now, if we could see some linkage from Connect to the forum...that would be great.
