Sharing WHS 2003 with Vail RRS feed

  • Question

  • I do not want to mess up my original WHS so I am building a new test system.

I am guessing that the connector software is different.

If so, can I install the new Vail connector software with the old 2003 existing software at the same time on the existing clients.

I would plan on only having 1 WHS box runnig at a time.

Or does Vail need to be totally seperate with its own clients.

    Thanks

  • No. You will not be able to install the Vail connector without removing the Windows Home Server V1 connector.

  • Good questions,

What Ken says, the short answer is, it is not supported.

The longer answer is, don't do it. There is overlap between the Connectors and while a Connector from the first version of Windows Home Server may not, yet, block on install if it sees a Windows Home Server Code Name "Vail" Beta Connector both Connectors end up in an undesired state with regards to install and uninstall

So net net, you need to uninstall one Connector before adding another. Oh and while I have your attention, The Programs and Features entry for the Vail Connecotr is "Windows Server Connector", this will change before RTM of course.

  • Can one install the Vail Connector first, then the V1 Connector afterwards?  I would test this, but won't have my test box up for a few more days or so.

  • Try it in a VM. Let us know what happens. It will most definitely not be supported, however, because both connectors do many of the same things.
