No Genuine Advantage Software Pops up RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just installed the latest service pack and was experiencing problems with Word. It suggested I update but it then told me my copy was not valid. I have all the related keys and codes but the wizard is not present...how do I get there to fix this? I have taken my computer to get fixed at a local computer store before and am thinking this is where things went wrong but I can't fix the problem cause all of your recomendations say to use the wizard that pops up during the first days of use, I have been using these programs for years.

  • kick_it_jo,

Thank you for visiting the OFfice Genuine Advantage (OGA) program forums. A few simple questions before we get started here.

    1. Was your computer purchased from an OEM like Gateway or Dell, etc?

    2. Did you build it?

    3. What copy of Windows should be on your PC?  And how did you purchase it?

    4. What copy of Office do you have Product Keys for (Do NOT post your Product Keys)? Please write the full titles?

    5. How/Where did you purchase those copies?

As I analyze your Diagnostic Report, these quick answers from you will help me greatly. No need to post any Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Also, just a reminder that no PII is collected in the above Diagnostic Report either.

We look forward to working with you.

  • 1. A locally owned and operated computer store.

    2. No the computer store built it.

    3. Windows XP Home Edition. From the same computer store on number 1.

    4. Microsoft Office XP Small Business 2002.

    5. From the same computer store on number 1.

I bought the computer and all the programs/software as a whole/complete package from the local computer store (which is no longer in business as it was bought out).

  • kick_it_jo,

Two things, I'm going to need you to re-run the MGADT. For some reason I am unable to analyze your current one. The second thing I am going to give you is the phone number for telephone activation for office, and the cleanup tool.

Below I am showing Office XP not activated. Call the number, wait out the automated part and a representative should take the line.

Microsoft Office XP Small Business - 101 Not Activated
    Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 - 100 Genuine

If the Telephone Activation and then the clean up tool doesn't work, then re-run the MGADT.

    Telephone Activation:

    From the Desktop:

    1.

Click Start,  All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the taskbar notification area next to the clock.

    2.

Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows now.

    3.

Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.

    4.

Follow the steps in the “Activate Windows by phone” dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5.

When activation is completed and you receive the following message:

You have successfully activated your copy of Windows

    Then click OK.

Also you may reference the following site for various Telephone Activation Centers:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851

For more information on how to activate Windows XP see the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890

The following article will allow you to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and uninstall all Microsoft Office programs 2003 and below (NOT OFFICE 2007) on your computer. Then reinstall Microsoft Office using the genuine Office installation media  and product key. See below:

KB290301 – Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301.

The following link provides information for the Windows Product Key Update Tool instructions.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/PkuInstructions.aspx?displayLang=enUtility

If you are still having issues, download the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT).  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

  • I pulled up windows activation and it said "Windows is already activated" and asked to click ok to exit, with no other options. Called the telephone number and he directed me to tech support 1-800-936-5700.

I am going to call, if I don't get someone right away I will run cleanup tool. Please respond if you have further ideas/information for me to try.

  • kick_it_jo,

I am going to post in two new windows. I was able to analyze these results. I do need to say to begin with that Microsoft does not support OEM System Builder copies of the OS. The place where you purchased your OS would need to offer you further support.

The Windows XP Home Product Key installed on this computer was not assigned by Microsoft. The Product Key is counterfeit and was most likely generated by a Product Key generator. The Product Key found on your computer has been detected on multiple computers. Product keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA).   You will find numerous sites where this Product Key has been posted.  Use your favorite search engine and paste in the Product Key.

There are situations which can cause Windows XP to become non-genuine. Let me give one example.  Customers have taken in their systems for service along with all the software received when purchasing their system. The customer picks up the system and viola’ no problems whatsoever until they need to download an update. Suddenly their system is non-genuine. The customer's computer was not installed with their software but either a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) or a Keygen’d Product Key. Also the software could work for several weeks, months, or even a year or more then suddenly become blocked.

This is why you may be seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer. You will need to uninstall Windows XP Home before any further complications occur from being non-genuine.

Under NO circumstances should someone try to download/distribute ISO images for software from a P2P file sharing site or use a second-hand burned copies of software. Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and other potentially harmful malware. One file in particular was very alarming.  This file was an administrator account giving the attacker full control over both your system and data.  I would be very concerned about your system integrity because Windows is non-genuine.

As a customer there are several options available for you to get to a “Genuine” status. For details on the ways to get “Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details. It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take. Here is the link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

If this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy.  Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you, who have become victims, to report piracy at the following link:

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.aspx

Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs.

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise off-load any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/re-imaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive.

    Continue to the next post.

  • None of the suggestions above worked for me. I am sure my copy is valid, and yes I have visited all the information posted and more. My product key is different than what the diagnostics show and the Activation wizard says it is already activated even when I reinstalled without entering the key.

My question is, do you think this product key update tool that I found would work?
