  • Question

  • Hi All,

I have passed certification 70-433 - SQL DB Developer 2008. (This course is expired now)

Now they have up with SQL 2012 exams.

    1. First exam for 2012 is 70-461 Quering SQL 2012.

    2. There are 2 more exams which are suitable for me - 70-457 - Upgrade to SQL 2012 part 1

           70-458 - Upgrade to SQL 2012 part 2

I am confused with above 2 options. Can anyone help me out to choose one of those option?

  • Hi Vaibhav,

70-433 has not yet retired but will do so on the 31st July 2014.

Now that you have passed 70-433, the 461 should not be hard to pass since it covers the same topics as the 70-433. However, please note that passing JUST 70-461 will NOT certify you in 2012. For that you will have to give at-least 462 AND 463 to become Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (SQL Server 2012). To give you a brief overview, Exam 462 concentrates on Database Administration while 463 introduces you to Data Warehousing, it's implementation, installing SSIS and the likes.

Another way to get yourself certified in SQL Server 2012 is to take the 2 upgrade exams that you mentioned

1: 457: Transition Your MCTS on SQL Server 2008 to MCSA: SQL Server 2012, Part 1

2: 458: Transition Your MCTS on SQL Server 2008 to MCSA: SQL Server 2012, Part 2

You can take either path. Personally I think it's easier to upgrade with two exams than get certified with three (plus it's more cost effective ;)

    Hope this helps
