Office Professional 2007 Validation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased a copy of Office Pro 2007 which came sealed in a box and has a valid product key.  I installed and registered the software in October 2008.  I am just now getting a message that it failed validation.  Why would it take nearly 4 months to notify me that it failed validation?

The Office Professional Plus 2007 installed on your HP Pavilion computer is an edition of Office that is properly sold only thru the Volume Licensing program to larger businesses, educational institutions and governmental agencies.  This installation was done with an invalid Product Key made by a pirating program known as a Key Generator.  The product key was NOT issued by Microsoft, making it Invalid.

The Office OneNote 2007 installation on your computer is reporting as a Genuine OEM license for the product, so no worries there.

If your use of the installed Office Professional Plus 2007 is in association with a larger business, educational institution, or governmental agency that might have a Volume Licensing Agreement with Microsoft, please report this nongenuine problem to your organization's IT support staff for further troubleshooting and resolution.

If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL disc, and you certainly should not have received an Invalid Product Key.  Quite often people purchase what is advertised and packaged as a retail license for Office Professional 2007, but all too often, the product they receive is a counterfeit Office package that installs a nongenuine copy of Office Professional Plus 2007.  This would seem to be the situation in your case.

Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand a full refund.  If the seller refuses to help, please pursue whatever remedies are available to you thru the selling venue, your payment method (credit card, PayPal, etc), or the legal system in your area.

Also, depending upon whether you received "high quality" counterfeit materials, you may qualify for the Office Complimentary Offer or for the Office Genuine Advantage discounted offer.  Please see the FAQ here:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EKNAC  If you decide to participate in the Office Genuine Offer, please initiate the process by clicking on the "Learn More Online" link shown in the nongenuine notices on your screen.

One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

  • Hello,

I'm experiencing this exact same issue. I purchased Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Plus new and sealed from Amazon.com. I installed it in November 2008 without a problem! It worked for an entire year, then in November 2009, I started getting notifications that the Office suite was not genuine.

Microsoft Office OneNote, which I purchased and installed separately, is working fine.

    I appreciate any assistance!

    Here is my diagnostic report:

  • Thanks for your feedback, Dan. Needless to say, that's a disappointing surprise! It's too bad that honest consumers trying to purchase legal software end up with such convincing pirated copies. My CDs even have the holographic designs on them. I have contacted the seller. If that doesn't produce results, I'll definitely pursue your other suggestions.

I'm just wondering how this didn't show up before. Do you know why the software wasn't flagged as not genuine when I installed and activated it? Or why I didn't get a notification until a year later?

Once again, I appreciate your help on this issue. Have a good day!

  • Hello silver.rondels,

Office 2007 and prior do not have any sort of internal validity check.  Any such checks have to be installed and updated externally thru Windows Updates.

Windows Update on Vista has to be manually set to gather updates for Microsoft products other than Vista, for example, Office, MSN, etc.  It's possible that your Vista's Windows Update was not set to gather the Office Genuine Advantage updates until recently. Also, if you left management of Windows Update on full automatic, you would not get the OGA update because it is not considered a "critical secutity update" that would get installed automatically by Windows.

  • Hello rlm18,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

    OGA Data-->
    Office Status: 108 Invalid VLK
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007 - 108 Invalid VLK
    OGA Version: Registered, 2.0.48.0
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-364-80041010_025D1FF3-229-80041010_025D1FF3-230-1_025D1FF3-517-80040154_025D1FF3-237-80040154_025D1FF3-238-2_025D1FF3-244-80070002_025D1FF3-258-3_E2AD56EA-765-d003_E2AD56EA-766-0_E2AD56EA-134-80004005

The Office Professional Plus 2007 installed on your Dell Vostro 1520 computer is an edition of Office that is properly sold only thru the Volume Licensing program to larger businesses, educational institutions and governmental agencies.  This installation was done with an invalid Product Key made by a pirating program known as a Key Generator.  The product key was NOT issued by Microsoft, making it Invalid.
