Win 7 Home Premium license key transfer to new owner RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was given a used computer with a product key sticker on it for Win 7 Home Premium. I don't need to upgrade nor move the license to a different PC. I'm just the new owner. How do I transfer the license to me?

  • By handing over the computer and the COA sticker with it, the previous owner is deemed to have transferred the license to you.

There is no formal need to do anything, but I would strongly advise that you reformat and reinstall the software to ensure that your machine is not riddled with problems and/or malware from the previous owner.

  • If the license is already installed on the PC, and you now own the PC, please see: Windows registration: frequently asked questions
