Using a text file of folders with synctoy RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to use a text file to define the folders for sync and the destinations.

In the past I have used a BAT file to create backups of their work for my students but I would like to automate the process a little more, particularly as the students have several options this year which mean that they will be in and out of the lessons.

Plus the destination folder will change to a different network drive later this year and I dont want to redo all the folder pairs when it does. It will be easier changing a text file.

  • Hi ICTTeach,

I have not heard that SyncToy has any build-in features to support this. But I think batch file commands can help you to work around your problem. At least you can try batch file variables and environment variables, in your .bat file, to simplify your work.

    Thanks.

  • Hi JiGuang

I have used batch files in the past to find the files and folders and then create the backups but the other teachers in the school are not familiar with batch files and they would not be able to modify or change them without potential problems. So I am looking for a simple (very) tool that will let them back up their students work.

    Many thanks for the reply.
