  • I have found a dual processor Xeon board cheap. Can this be used as the basis for a WHS system? I plan to use (2) 2.4 GHZ Xeons w/ 2GB memory and a couple of large IDE drives (400+GB ea.)

    Thanks in advance,

  • Hello,
it should be technically possible (since usually Xeons are installed on server boards, which are supported with Windows Server 2003 drivers).
    But be aware of following:
Double check the board if it fits the ATX for format with your case (full size ATX and special server boards do often not fit into standard cases) and the requirements for power supply (sometimes server boards have strange connectors).
Consider also, that an oldstyle dual processor consumes much more electrical power and that the old Xeons are not designed as a power saving CPU for the idle times.
    Best greetings from Germany
