OGA Fails as User but is fine as Admin or Power User RRS feed

  • Question

  •

    This is ridiculous!

How can I manually install OGA validation tool so my users don't keep getting these errors that office is counterfeit.
This is a legit volume license install pushed though an A.D. software policy.

  • Pbrunnen,

Please download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum. This will allow us to see what you are currently experiencing. Next we will analyze the problem and begin to forumulate a resolution.

Step 2 is tell us about the COA. Tell us:

    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?
    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

    Thank you,

  • Pbrunnen,

Resolution Steps for Manual ActiveX Installation

Are you having complications loading the Active X control? I would like to provide the following information and steps for you to follow to attempt resolving this issue.

Step 1: OGA Manual ActiveX Installation

    1.      Click the Start button, then click “Run”

    2.      Type in “iexplore http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=58813” then click ‘OK’. You will be prompted to download “OGAControl.cab”.

    3.      Choose Open. Once this completes, a window will open showing two files, OGACheckControl.dll and OGAControl.inf. Leave this window open for now.

    4.      Click the Start button, then click “Run”

    5.      Type in “system32”, then click ‘OK’. (If you are running Windows XP, you may need to click “show files” to allow access to this system directory.)

    6.      Drag the OGACheckControl.dll file from the window that was open into the system32 directory. If you are prompted to overwrite a file, choose ‘Yes’ to overwrite any existing file. (If you are running Vista, you may be prompted to provide administrator permission to complete the action. If so, press “Continue” and allow it.)

    7.      Click the Start button, then click “Run”

    8.      Type “regsvr32 OGACheckControl.dll”, and then click ‘OK’.

    9.      You should see a dialog saying “DllRegisterServer in OGACheckControl.dll succeeded.”

After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Office again.

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/WhyValidate.aspx?familyid=8b081f3a-b7d0-4b16-b8af-5a6322f4fd01&displaylang=en .  Were you able to pass Office Validation successfully?

Should you have additional problems please review the knowledge base (KB) article “How to troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to activate an Office product” located @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us  and “How to troubleshoot problems that you may experience when you try to activate a 2007 Office product” located @:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895.  Please look @ Method 2: If the Opa11.dat file or the Data.dat file is corrupted and make the changes applicable for your version of Office.

Restart the computer and contact the Microsoft Activation Center to re-activate Office should there be problems should you need assistance. The Office Activation Center can be reached at (888) 652-2342 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific Time.

Hope this will provide you with resolve.  Thank you...

  • Stephen,
I tried your recommendation with the DLL...  but no difference. Same with the Opa12.dat fix.
For clarification, the web based verification has always worked.  It is inside Word when you attempt to use one of the templates that need to be downloaded.  We are using Office 2007 Standard and Office 2007 Pro Plus (both behave the same).

I have not tried excel or power point for this.

The activation center told be that this is not an activation problem... which is in line with my thoughts.  As I said earlier, this is a volume license which do not need nor get activated.

BTW... Still awaiting a response from Genuine Advantage support...

  • Stephen,

I have placed on our webserver the report output from the MGADiag as both user and admin.  I also have screenshots of the issue I am describing.

Please email me privately for the URL, username, and password.

    pbrunnen [at] gillespieassociates [dot] com

You will see that the user fails but the admin passes OK.

The systems are WinXP Pro SP2 OEM from Dell

The office licenses are VLP pushed through AD System Software Policy.

    Thanks.  -Cheers, Peter.

P.S.  Thanks again.  Genuine advantage support has Still not responded to me. All I have from them is the automated '... we got your message and we'll get back to you...' email.

  • Hello pbrunnen,

Currently Windows & Office are Genuine. The problem you’re experiencing is with the Cryptographic service on your computer. Cryptographic service is a standard service that runs under Windows XP and is used by Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) and Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) to read the Digital Signatures of files on the computer. If the Cryptographic service have errors (as seen in your Diagnostic Report "Validation Status: Cryptographic Errors Detected") WGA/OGA cannot Validate a Genuine status.

There is a very easy fix for this. Open Internet Explorer and type the following website in for the URL: http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/ .  Once you open please click the “Start Diagnostic" button. Click the “Resolve Now” button if/when the tool finds any issues.  The tool will, most likely, resolve the issue on its own or will provide you further instructions.

Next try this should the above fail: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us

    Thank you,
