Error Code 0xC004f050

Question
-
I have a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed by Dell. This evening, I downloaded an "update" from Microsoft (I don't know which package). When I restarted the machine, I got an error screen saying that I was running a bogus copy of Vista. It prompted me to reenter the product key, which I did. Up popped an error message - 0xC004F050 - saying that the key had been invalidated.
What gives? How do I fix this? I got on the phone with the Dell tech support and they had me restore Vista, with no success.

The information provided by Supermark is incorrect!
The OEM SLP product Key will ALWAYS come up as Blocked by Microsoft because ALL of the OEM SLP keys (from the same manufacturer) are all the same. They are the keys that come pre-installed in Vista (when Vista comes pre-installed on a computer) These OEM SLP keys ONLY self activate and thus, they CAN NOT be activated over the internet or by phone, with Microsoft.
This customer will need to change their Product Key to their COA SLP key (it's the Product Key found on the sticker on the side or bottom of the computer) The COA SLP key is Valid and Unique to that computer. Once the user has changed the key to the COA SLP key, they will be able to Activate by Phone without issue.

I have the sticker. However, I DON"T have an option to activate it over the phone. It just says you can contact TOSHIBA to resolve an issue. Option 4 (SLUI.EXE) gives the same options: Type in different key; use Vista with limited functionality; Conctact TOSHIBA which I did with no luck - they could only advise re-installing OS
