Office 2007 Pro, I am at a loss RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have recently purchased a copy of Office 2007 Pro and installed it on my PC. I have been able to activate the software, however it does not pass validation. previously I installed what i believe to be a pirate copy bought from EBAY. This seiler was helpful and refunded my money. I was able to uninstall this software easily.

Would it be possible for the pirated software to affect the new installation. If so can you advise me of a way to fix this.

    Regards

    Gmacd

  • Hello gmacd,

Unfortunately, the installation of Office on your computer at the time the mgadiag utility was run is still a nongenuine installation, as reported below:

If this installation was done with a replacement copy of Office, unfortunately it means the copy you purchased as a replacement is also a bad copy.

Having a nongenuine installation of Office and then uninstalling it and replacing it with a genuine installation does occasionally still trigger the OGA Notification Utility, because the uninstallation process does not remove the nongenuine Office's license file.  [This condition can be fixed by running a MS FixIt located in several MS KB articles.]  However, this only happens when identical versions and editions of Office are involved.  Based on what you wrote, and what we see in the report, we know for sure in your case that two nongenuines in a row were installed because the mgadiag report takes an independent look at the installed Office and does not rely on a possibly old license file to make a determination.

  • Hello gmacd,

Don't forget that if you acquired what would be considered by Microsoft to be high-quality counterfeit copies of Office, if you can't get a refund from the seller, you can apply for Complimentary Replacements from Microsoft.

Please click on the Learn More Online link you are being shown by the OGA Notifications Utility.  Look for the "Request a Complimentary Replacement" links (or wording to that effect) on the right side of the subsequent web pages.  This link will take you through a process that has you prepare a piracy report and then provides you an address to send your counterfeit materials for evaluation.  Upon receipt, if Microsoft deems them to be "high quality counterfeits" you will be sent complimentary replacements.

Please refer to the FAQ for further information:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en#ID0EAPAC

    Keep us posted! :-)
