  • Hello

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "I've tried to copy my code".

Are you trying to change the Product Key to the one listed on the sticker on the side or bottom of the pc?

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • I tried running slui.exe 4 and I am still getting "C:\Windows\system32\pidgenx.dll is either not designated to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the orginal installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."

  • What is the specific make and model number of your computer?  Did it come with Windows Vista originally?

  • Hi Tfortiggr,

Please try the below steps.  (Note: These steps do contain the 'net stop sls' command, but I believe these steps are different then the one you have tried already).  These steps will do two things a) it will recreate Vista's Licensing Store file which may be causing the issue and b) Windows will request that you enter a Product key.  Entering the key this way will often work for customers that in the past received the Invalid Product Key message when trying to change keys.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc   (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar (if tokens.bar already exists, try tokens.old instead)
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • Download and install  BIOS Update Version F.08 and restart your computer.  Then run the  Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool  again and post the report in this thread.

  • When I try and download BIOS update Version F.08 A box pops up "System BIOS upgrade utility. Error to execute Script file! Please run again later!"

I have Vista 32bit not 64 though so I'm not sure if thats part of the problem?

I reran MGAD just in case though...

  •   The core of the issue appears to be the Product key you are trying to enter.  Unfortunately, I can't analyze that key because you do not want to post the key in a public forum.

So at this point I recommend either contacting Microsoft assisted support (at one of the below URLs) or reinstall Windows.

    North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4

    Outside North America:
    http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0

    Thank you,
