Windows HPC 2008 R2 Deployment RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am doing Windows HPC 2008 R2 deployment for one of our customers.  I install an Evaluation version of Windows HPC 2008 R2 Suit on the cluster.  Can customer activate later without reinstalling it?

  • Yes, using the standard Windows Server activation command line (slmgr), however it is not suggested.

'Upgrading' the head node via the slmgr command line is fine, but I suggest creating new compute node images and redeploying all compute nodes. Otherwise any newly-added / replaced / reimaged compute node will be installed with the evaluation version and would require the cluster admin to remember that manually updating the machine was a required step.
