CRM 2011 - Delete and Import Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, i m exploring this Import/Export area of CRM 2011. Came across something interesting and wanted to your feedback

    1. In my contacts table, i have created 4 records
    2. Export the data (all 4 records) to excel as static
    3. Delete 1 record from the main entity
    4. Imported the data exported in step (2)
    5. After the import, i should expect to see all 4, because the one deleted is part of the excel file but its not the case
    6. It looks like if the record is deleted from table level, you can add it back through import. Please correct my concept here if i am wrong

Will look forward to hear from you all.

    Thanks

  • I would expect that the record would obtain a new identifier, so unless you also exported all of the records related to the deleted contact, the newly created import will likely no longer present a relationship to the records with which the original contact was connected.  This may be advantageous in certain situations, and troublesome in others.  Just be aware that this will likely occur.

Do you think this MSDN link is good enough to get started: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg328321.aspx

Or can you suggest or have anything handy that is bookmarked.

  • That should be an excellent resource for understanding how to initiate and process an import using the SDK/API.  Obviously its not required to perform an import that way, unless you need the process automated.  Performing the same task manually would be better referenced through this link:  http://www.powerobjects.com/blog/2010/10/01/crm-2011-data-import-wizard/
