Want to restore backup to a MacBook RRS feed

  • I have files from a PC backed up by Live OneCare on an external hard drive.  The PC has crashed.  Can I recover the fdiles onto a MacBook?

  • If the MacBook is running Windows, yes, using the Windows Live OneCare Restore tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/e5d686c8-762b-4b22-bc08-bfb93f911e57

    If the MacBook is running OSX, it will be a manual process. The OneCare backup stores your files in .zip files. You will need to extract the files manually using a 3rd party compression program that runs on OSX and if any files have been split by the OneCare backup, they will need to be rejoined. I'm not aware of a 3rd party rejoin utility for Mac OSX, but I am sure that one must exist. An alternative would be to restore the files using the above utlity to another Windows PC and copying the files over to the Mac.
