replacing motherboard/cpu validation issues? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an ASUS P5N-E-SLI motherboard with Intel quad 2 cpu. 8gb memory, ge-force 768mb graphics card.
After the last windows update I rebooted, but get only 1 long post beep (blank screen). I don't have the capability of testing the mobo or cpu. I understand that I can probably use my sata wd hard drive (it was my boot drive) since this is not a pre-built computer such as a Dell or Sony if I buy a new motherboard and cpu in the same family. Unfortunately, I cannot find any P5N-E-SLI, but I can find other P5 boards. Is this considered same family?
And, if it is, can I just pop the old hard drive in? It would take me a week of installing to get all my apps back and running!! I have work to turn in like last week. Help!!

  • Hello klh54,

Your hardware-specific question would be best-asked in the Asus user-to-user support message boards, or in a general hardware support forum such as Tom's Hardware:  http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/forum-30.html

    Good Luck!
