External Address Book slow to download, can be 10 mins to 2 hours.

    Question

  • Hi all,

    Have a strange issue with OCS 2007 R2, std, with Edge Server roles. Clients are all remote (none internal for testing), they're using communicator r2 and find the Address Book is slow to download. When login, sometimes it can be slow but acceptable, other times hours. We're checking the profile location of the user for the gal files.

    I've checked the ISA 2006 listener rule and done logging from ISA + comms (as we have various firewalls in place), all pass without issue. The IIS logs on the OCS Std server confirm connections also. How can you troubleshoot this type of issue, should we be looking at Application Pool on OCS Std?

Answers

  • With the latest OCS R2 client (3.5.6907.37), the Address Book Download works on BITS (Background intelligent Transfer System), which provides randomization, and checks the local PC network to decide when to download.

    There is a registry key that can be implemented for immediate download.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator]
    "GalDownloadInitialDelay"=dword:00000000
