No sound after hibernation, problem didn't start until after updated critical updates.

  I'm currently running windows 7 ultimate SP1. I hibernate rather than shut down/cold start when I want to use the computer. Recently I did an update and started not having audio. The troubleshooter says that "hardware changes might not have been detected" however this is a laptop and the audio device is on board. The program Unknown Device Identifier sees my on board audio just fine (MCP67 nVidia HD Audio Device) but for some stupid reason windows no longer recognizes it. I've updated and reinstalled my drivers about 30 times now and every once in awhile I'll get my sound back. What the heck is causing this?
