CRM 2011 kills outlook ribbon RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi @all,

I have Office 2010 Professional installed on one of our clients. After upgrading from CRM 4.0 to CRM 2011 the outlook whole ribbon and all menu entries (not only CRM ribbon) disapeared completely. After disabling the CRM 2011 addIn in outlook the ribbon is displayed again.

Does anyone have an idea how I find out whats happening and get the outlook client working with CRM?

    Josef

  • Hi,

Try reset the Outlook Ribbon Customizations, (Right click on Outlook ribbon, choose Customize the Ribbon and click on Reset (Reset all Customizations) button to reset outlook ribbon.

  • Hi Jehanzeb,

Thank you for the hint. Tried it, but no success. I had to deactivate CRM Add-In.

  • Josef,

Since you have moved from 4.0 to 2011, I am assuming that you have not made any ribbon customizations correct? If you have customized the ribbon you can turn on "Show add-in user interface errors" under the Outlook Options > Advanced > Developers area. This will show you any errors that the Dynamics ribbon is creating.

  • Richard,

good idea, I will check that. However, on another notebook with same version of Office things are working fine. Only difference is windows 7 professional x86 and x64 versions. Would be strange if that would make the difference.

  • Richard,

sorry for the time delay, I was busy with other projects. I followd your suggestion and got a mass of errors displayed, I just grab out the first two, the others are more orde less the same:

    Runtime error. Error calling "HrExplorerGroupGetVisible"

    Runtime error. Error calling "HrExplorerButtonGetEnabled"

    and so on.

    There are no customizations.

I had a look at Windows System log but with no results. None of the errors are logged.

Do you have an idea how to continue?

  • Did you install a new version of outlook?

It happened to me when I passed from 2007 to 2010

You need to get rid off of the old registry key by doing so,

    • Run Regedit.exe
    • Locate the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{2DF8D04C-5BFA-101B-BDE5-00AA0044DE52} key
    • Delete the 2.4 key that’s found under it. It’s not needed anymore, there should only be 2.5

  • Emile.m1,

thank you for worrying about it, I have not been able to perform the test. Another project keeps me busy. I guess, I'll do the test in next couple of days and then I'll post the results.

    Regards

  • Hi Emile.m1,

tested your suggestion and deleted the reg key. Got one step further, but get now an error message telling MSCRM_WebPageForumRegion .... manifest conatins invalid XML.

I'll check the Update status, and see wether there is a backlog.

    Regards
