Robocopy log file documentation request RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to use robocopy to reconcile 2 machines' data so that their E: drives are identical. As an experiment, I entered the following command to test with one folder, which generated only a small disaster:

    C:\Users\mfa>robocopy "e:\BFA Backup" "\\mfa-gyfmqc1\E-Drive\BFA Backup" /E /XO /LOG+:E:\robocopy.log

and the first bits of the log are:

      Started : Tue Apr 03 13:07:52 2012

       Source : e:\BFA Backup\
         Dest : \\mfa-gyfmqc1\E-Drive\BFA Backup\
         Files : *.*
         Options : *.* /S /E /COPY:DAT /XO /R:1000000 /W:30

                                64    e:\BFA Backup\
        *EXTRA Dir        -1    \\mfa-gyfmqc1\E-Drive\BFA Backup\2012_03_11\
           *EXTRA File           113528    Borghis.docx

    1) I did not enter the /S switch; does my /E trump robocopy's /S?

    2) What do the numbers in each line mean? (i.e.,  the "64" and the "-1").

In general, is there any detailed documentation of the log file available?

  • Hi,

This is really a scripting forum rather than a robocopy support forum. Try asking in a more appropriate forum.

  • Robocopy documentation is built into robocopy.

    robocopy /? >robocopy.txt

    Print it:

    print robocopy.txt
