  • What sort of college background or experience in database administration do you have?  Knowing where you're at will make it easier to figure out the best direction.

  • Hi there,

Well, first of all, have some time to visit www.microsoft.com/learning :) It is the page where all certification are decribed.

But, for the database specialist, there are few certificates, depends which product you've been working with so far :)

    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/certifications.mspx

on this page you will find certificates sort by technologies. If you scroll down a bit, you will find SQL Server ones. And now, as you can see, there MCTS and MCITP certs.

MCTS = Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist
MCITP = Microsoft Certified IT Professional

Can't tell you which one to take exactly, it is you that should/will know it :)

I would recomend you to start with one from MCTS tracks (SQL 2005 or 2008), and then jump into MCITP, using upgrade exams.

But as Charles stated before, it all depends what experience and/or job related skills you have. Hope this helps :)

    Cheers,
    Ben
