How is Exchange 2007 better than Sendmail RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of my customer has 4 branch offices and 1 head office, with total users not more than 100. What will be a better solution :

1)Using 4 Exchange std server, 1 in each branch offices and 1 Exchange ent server at the HO.
2)Using just 1 ent server at the HO.

Pls suggest a better solution if any , which can also be easy on the customer's pocket.

However, the customer insists that procmail and dovecot can be used instead of exchange server. How is exchange 2007 better in the above scenario than any of the Unix based mailing server and needless to say , we need to show value for money.

Also : he would not be using Ent server CALs on any of the clients , hence no Rights managemnet services or unified communication is being considered.

  • You should be fine if you only have one Exchange server in the HQ
Use Outlook Cached mode for the clients
You don't need any ENT Exchange server unless you want High Availability or lots of storage groups / Databases

  • Thank you Deli.
But what about the edge server role?

  • If you want to use an Exchange EDGE server then you need another server (connot be collocated)
EDGE is only for Anti-Spam if you require anti-virus as well then you also need Foreront Security for Exchange on that box.
Some prefer to use ordinari anti-spam/virus tools/appliances
