ive read that whs makes a link to a file if the file already exists. how does this exactly work ? if i save test.bin to a folder and then save a completely diffent file with the same name to another folder, will my new file be destroyed (a link to the first file instead) ?
Windows Home Server may spread the files over different disks, and due to necessary balancing this location may change. To have them all in easy and reliable access, the files get a tombstone on d:\shares pointing to the stored file for providing the access to end users via Shared folders on server. (Also for duplicated files this tombstone only points to one file of both directly. ) Since the subfolder structure for the real files exist also on D:\shares, you must not be afraid, that another file with the same name put into a different folder will overwrite anything.
