Contacts are merged , how to de-merge? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have automated merging process of contact and other records such as activities , opportunities which are associated with contact.

Now we need to de-merge contacts and associated records. Is there any identifier to de-merge all associated records in backend?

    Appreciate your inputs.

  • Hi Knopix,

I think you will not be able to this for associated records.

At the database level you could find a flag (merged yes/no) to de-merge your contacts in the system.

  • Hi,

Once a contact/account/lead is merged, the 'slave' record is de-activated and the 'masterid' lookup is set to refer to the 'Master' record that was merged into.

All related records are moved from referencing the slave record to point to the master record - and this is a one way process for records that are closed and immutable (such as closed activities, closed quotes, expired contracts). For all other records you could possibly use the Audit trail to un-pick the merge but it would be a very complex task.

  • Scott:

Is this to say that the all the Activities associated to a slave record will "roll over" to the master record?
