Another windows not genuine problem please help

Question
-
Hi All.
any help to this question is greatly appreciated.
I have started getting a validation pop up everytime i try to log on.
Its asks me to activate now or gives me and option to activate later which is greyed out but them times out after a few seconds and allows me the option.
When logged on i get the 'this is not a genuine copy' build 6001 or something similar in the bottom right hand corner of screen.
Now,around the 30 days ago mark i reinstalled windows on my laptop after having hiccups onmy previous version.
I installed from a genuine cd in my laptop case but i think it may have been the install disk for my daughters laptop and not mine.
I previously had XP on my laptop and after reinstall i realised i had vista installed.
Everything has worked fine and i didnt relalise i had to reactivate after reinstalling.
Now i am getting this error i have tried entering the validation code from the reinstall cd rather then the one on the bottom of my laptop as it has worn and i cant make the numbers out.
The one on the cd does not work so im now stuck.
I ran the diagnostics tool as below:

You appear to have a Dell Key in an Acer computer.
For which version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed, according to the COA sticker on the case?
If the license is for Windows Vista Business Edition, then you need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment), using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
You may need to activate by phone.
Hi Noel,
many thanks for the help.
I had a look at the COA sticker but it is that worn i cant make it out.
I may try the phone activation and see what that brings
