Silicon Image eSata controller

Question
-
I'm trying to add eSata Drives to my Vail configuration. I can't seem to get an eSata controller installed. I've tried three. Two based on the SI3132 chipset (what darn near every external case comes with) and one based on the SI3124 chipset (faster, four port).
For the life of me I can't find drivers that work. I've tried every possible combination, even the x64 drivers for Server 2008 and Server 2003.
None are recognized as compatible. I can't believe this incredibly common eSata chipset isn't supported, so what could I be doing wrong?

You should look for Server 2008 R2 drivers (which is the underlying OS). If none are available, you could try Win 7 x64 drivers as well. For the life of me I can't find drivers that work. I've tried every possible combination, even the x64 drivers for Server 2008 and Server 2003.

Hi Tom,
you can only try Windows 7 64 Bit drivers, eventually Windows Server 2008. Brings running Windows Update from the Vail start menu manually bring up drivers?
The problem could be, that for consumer hardware often no server drivers are provided.
If you take a disk into the same case instead of Vail and install Windows 7 x64 on it, would it run? Only signed 64 Bit drivers will usually work on that platform.Best greetings from Germany

Interesting. I'd been trying the package that included Windows Server 2008 and it didnt even find the controller.
I hadn't thought of Windows 7 x64 drivers. Looks like those drivers might work. Can't imagine the difference!

Server 2008 (basically Vista with SP1 server) and Server 2008 R2 (basically Win7 server) are not the same. That's like saying Vista and Win7 are the same. While there are obvious similarities, they are not the same OS.I hadn't thought of Windows 7 x64 drivers. Looks like those drivers might work. Can't imagine the difference!

Now my problem is that WHS sees the controller, but none of the drives. Need to work on that. Possible it is the enclosure, but it was working fine.Sunday, June 13, 2010 11:05 AM

I have a SI3132 controller that came with a SansDigital TR4M-B working with Vail. I installed the 64bit sataraid_utility software that came with the package. Working fine with 1Tb, 1.5Tb and 2Tb drives installed.

OK, good to know. I think the external case has gone bad. It's getting old. My primary WHS server (non vail) has a 5 drive case and an TR8M-B 8 drive case. I suspect they'll come over just fine particularly with the RocketRaid 2314 controller.
Vail sees the 3132 and my four port 3124 now. Just not the drives.

I used the plain (non-RAID) W7 x64 drivers for my Sil3124 SATALink Controller from the Silicon Image website here:
http://www.siliconimage.com/support/searchresults.aspx?pid=27&cat=3
Along with that, I flashed the controller's BIOS to the latest base (non-RAID) BIOS and together, they work fine on Vail.

I have the same problem.
I solve it by disconnecting the Sil31xx Controller from the PC and connecting a IDE HD for the SystemInstallation on a PATA Port.
After the Installation i put the Controller back to the PC and update the driver with Sil3112R_x64_10171 from SiliconImage.com
No, it works fine on VAIL.
