I purchased Windows Xp Home Premium, though I didnt have the dvd drive soo I had to buy the 32 bit cd. My product key was fine when I bought the alternative media through the microsoft website but when I tried installing the alternative media, my product key comes up as invalid. Why is this so. note I have typed the key over and over again and it is still invalid

  • Hi Chris519,

Unfortunatly, since Vista isn't accepting the key, I can't see the key in your Diagnostic Report (The key that it does show, is the Default Key, that is automaticly used when Vista is installed when a product key wasn't entered during install).

Without seeing the key, I can tell you what might be the problem, but I Do Not want you to post your key in a public forum where anyone can steal it. So, I suggest going to http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/vol/numbers.mspx and finding the Activation Call Center near you. Give them a call and explain the issue. They can tell you if it's a problem with the key or not.

If it turns out not to be a problem with the product key, it may be a bad install or something else I can't think of. In which case, I would suggest contacting Vista support at http://support.microsoft.com Normally, install issues are supported at no charge.

    Hope that helps,,
