Hard Drive removed from client PC - backup failure RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm planning to remove a hard drive from my PC, as I would like to put it in my home server instead, now that I'm comfortable my files are okay to reside there.
I've disconnected said drive in my PC and ran a backup to WHS, but this fails due to the fact that this drive is now missing...
Is it possible to remove a drive from a client PC? Does this require some special process/notification to WHS so that it knows the fact the drive is no longer there is okay? Any help would be much appreciated...

    Thanks!

  • You will need to reconfigure backups for that PC to exclude the missing drive. As far as WHS can tell, a drive that you've removed is identical to one that has failed so completely that the OS doesn't even see it any more, thus the error.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
