XP corporate edition asking for activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to fix up a problem with a copy of XP corporate.

A friend had the machine specialy built and they placed a copy of XP Corporate on it for her, no original disks were recieved.

All was working fine until she tried to retieve some files from an old backup and instead bengan overwriting her system with a copy of XP pro from a previous machine. On realising her mistake she pulled the power plug and left the machine in a completely unbootable state.

I have managed to retore the system to a point before the trouble started. I can now access the operating system in Safe Mode but when tring to start a normal boot I recieve the error message:

    " Windows Product Activation

A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the licence information for this computer. Error Code: 0x80070002"

I believe that 80070002 error is a missing file but I am unable to determine which file it might be.

I also believe that XP Corporate does no need activation so I dont know why it is checking the licence.

    Thanks for any advice

  • Please be advised that Microsoft does not have, or ever distributed, a version of Windows XP called "XP Corporate edition".  You obviously have a non-genuine version.
