Adding new scheduling policy to Windows HPC RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

I wonder if there is any way to develop a new scheduling policy and inject it into the HPC system. Currently, I see only two scheduling modes in the HPC https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff919422(v=ws.11).aspx. Is there any way to even customize these modes based on our needs?

    Thanks, Puneet

  • Hi Puneet,

Could you tell us your scheduling policy needs? Currently we provide some way for admin to change the scheduling policy with the "Submission Filter", "Activation Filter" as well as the "HoldUntil" setting. Simply put:

Submission Filter is used for an external validation on the job submitted from clients, things like whether someone is submitting too many jobs within some time period. And the job can be modified as needed before it becomes queued

Activation Filter is used for validated before a job becomes running from queued (Eg: the scheduler resource has been met), you can add logics to check the external dependencies such as licensing available, or whether there is too many jobs already running from the same user/usergroup, or the input data is ready...

HoldUntil: you can hold the job from the scheduling to a future time.
