Problems after Free Upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was offered to reserve a free upgrade my Windows from 7 to 10 a few months ago and it was done with a Windows upgrade a month ago. However, a few problems are found after the upgrade:-

    (1) Delay in typing and response:  After I type 7-8 characters, there is a delay in typing and response. If I type fast, some key strokes are gone and they are not displayed on the screen so I need to type the words again.  It is very frustrating as if all my keystrokes are being captured causing delay.

    (2) Installation error of Windows 10:  After the upgrade, I could not find the "Internet Explorer" but "Microsoft Edge" which is not properly upgraded or installed.  Every time I clicked on the icon, the "Explorer.exe" error message is popped up.  As I installed "Chrome" in my previous Windows 7, I use Chrome for internet access.  Then I found "Internet Explorer" from the search menu and open it as administrator before I can use it.  I would like to know if the installation problems can be fixed by "Windows Upgrade" but I cannot find it as well.

    (3) Restoration of Windows 7:  I tried to restore my windows back to 7 but I was not prompted to make a backup before the installation of Windows 10.  It seems like there is no way back now.  This free upgrade is quite time-consuming and troublesome.  If I can switch backwards, I hope that there is a free downgrade.

Are all the above problems being caused by the size of Windows 10?  I assume that it should be larger than Windows 7 in size and together with the memory size causing delay of 1-2 seconds even in typing every 6-7 characters (NOT words).

  • I searched for some Q&A and followed some advices including using commands such as "SFC", "DISM", etc., and renaming softwareDistribution file, etc. I run the Windows Update as Administrator but it stopped with a message "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting." and error code "0x80070057".

    (1) The typing display is slow in response and I need to wait for typing until the bar blinks.

    (2) Microsoft Edge cannot be used as well as Windows Update.  I used to update windows through Internet Explorer but it does not work now even as administrator I have doubts that I can update Microsoft windows using Chrome.

I hope Microsoft can solve these issues with Windows Update or send me links for solving my problems.

  • Did you run SFC & DISM?

Did you ask where Dave Patrick suggested?

    What did you do?
