Server 2010 - - Transfering file ownership to Project has changed and is RRS feed

    There seems to be a departure from MSP Server 2007 and 2010 when it comes to trying to transfer project file ownership.  If I recall correctly, in 2007 when transfering file ownership, only those that were permitted to 'save/ create a project' (i.e., Project Manager group) where available in the list of users that we could transfer to.  In 2010, ALL users are listed!!!  This is really ugly (especially when the list of users can be very very long in large organizations; limited only by asearch feature to narrow down the list)!!!  In 2010, if you choose a user who does not have 'save project' in their profile (via category) you will get an error AFTER you try to save.  This IS THE PROBLEM!!!

    Same problem exists if you want to give permissions to a project via project permissions feature (in PWA > Project Center).

    Do you think this can be raised as a bug?  Or is it by design?

    Hi Spiro,

    I presume that you are refering to the Owner. Only with the appropriate right can you become an owner, not everyone. I would check your security to ensure that only the users have owner rights that should have it. The general security model has not changed in 2010

    I agree with Marc.

    When you write "If I recall correctly, in 2007 when transfering file ownership, only those that were permitted to 'save/ create a project' (i.e., Project Manager group) where available in the list of users that we could transfer to.", you are not recalling correctly - sorry. Also in 2007 all users where listed. When saving with a user who can't be an owner, you receive the error "The project could not be saved due to the following reason(s): An unknown error has occured."

    In 2010 you get "The selected project owner cannot be assigned because the resource does not have the Save permission on this project.", which tells you more in my opinion.
