  • You have a Volume License version of Windows 7 Professional that is normally installed by large business enterprises. In order to properly activate it, the PC must be connected periodically to the business enterprise's servers for validation. Please contact the IT Administrator of your business enterprise for assistance with activation.

  • Windows 7 wasn't even released until 2009 so it was impossible for it to be activated in 2004.  So it appears the dealer sold you a computer that had a company's Volume License for Windows 7 Professional on it and hacked the license to prevent periodic product validation from occurring. A recent WGA update probably exposed the illegal hack and that is why it is now flagged as "non-genuine".  All you can do now is purchase a genuine Windows license and perform a "clean install".

  • Why should I even be asked to activate when it was activated in 2004? I purchased the computer from a dealer in my area of that year and have been using it since. I notice that MS has had issues of this nature last December and it looks like they have reappeared.
